FINNMARK & FINNISH LAPLAND
ARCTIC PHOTO TOUR
Arctic Scandinavia and, in particular, theVarangerfjord area are classic destinations for birdwatchers, usally during late spring, when most migrant species have arrived on their breeding grounds but more northern species have already gone further north to even more polar latitudes.
Our tour has a different timing, as we will visit the area towards the end of the winter season, thus seeing an unusual Varangerfjord, still largely covered in snow, and therefore even more fascinating.
We will have the rare chance to see and photograph the not many, but extremely charismatic species which dare to spend the winter in these remote areas: King Eider, Steller’s Eider, Long-tailed Duck, Iceland Gull, White-tailed Eagle, Gyrfalcon, SiberianTit, Siberian Jay, Pine Grosbeak, Ptarmigan and more.
We shall visit seabirds colonies where we will closely approach Puffins, Brunnich’s and Black Guille-mots, Kittiwakes and Shags. Already actively displaying and busy finding a partner.
We will experience an unusual Varangerfjord, being able to photograph some of the more sought-after northern species with a snow-white background, while days are already long enough, and mild enough, to allow great photo opportunities while enjoying this arctic paradise.
